
National Driver Improvement Scheme Course
Day one
A full day involving:
4 hour Workshop
- 4 hours - Interactive workshop. The session will focus on crashes; where, why, who and how their accident occurred, how life pressures affect our driving, hazard perception and a refresh of the Highway Code.
3 hours Practical on-road training
- 3 hours - Practical on road training with a trainer and 3 delegates in a vehicle supplied by DriveTech. The session will commence with a basic Department for Transport eyesight test i.e. ability to read a numberplate from 20.5m followed by a discussion on the Course and delegates’ training objectives. These may include observation techniques, ‘reading’ the road, motorway driving, town centre driving, parking, confidence building and speed control. Every delegate can have a variety of objectives, the list is endless! The session concludes with a debrief and interim training report along with the setting of objectives for the next morning.
Day 2
A half-day involving:
4 hours Practical on-road training
- 4 hours - Commences with review of the Highway Code. Practical on road training continues where delegates will consolidate what they have learnt during the previous day. The Course will conclude with the Trainer completing a personal training report. The report is for the drivers benefit and the copy remains with DriveTech and not the police.
THERE IS NO PASS OR FAIL TEST. TO COMPLETE THE COURSE DELEGATES MUST PARTICIPATE FULLY AND SHOW AN IMPROVEMENT IN ABILITY AND ATTITUDE WHERE NECESSARY.
Following the course a driver will not be eligible to attend another Scheme if their second crash occurs within three years of their first course.
